Queens College Library – Collection Development and Acquisitions Internship – Fall 2013

qclThe Queens College Library invites applications for academic library internship during the Fall 2013 semester. This is an unpaid internship position, aimed at providing current LIS students with a practical field experience. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to be part of an academic library environment and work with librarian responsible for Acquisitions and Collection Development.

Description: The intern will participate in creating an online subject guide for library collection in Classical and Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures. The intern will be introduced to a variety of major resources in the field of literature, including both collection development sources and subject specific ones.

Professional Development: The intern will gain familiarity with work performed in the Acquisitions Department and will have an opportunity to attend a variety of in-house professional and committee meetings.

Qualifications:  The candidate must be currently enrolled student in the LIS Master’s Program.  The QC GSLIS Master’s program candidates must have completed 21 credits and be enrolled in the GLIS 795 Internship course to obtain academic credit. All prospective candidates must have approval from the course coordinator prior to applying for the internship position.  Must show initiative, flexibility and ability to work in a team based environment. Familiarity with CUNY online catalog and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is highly desirable.

Schedule: 10-15 hours per week per semester is required. Position is available as of the start of the Fall 2013 semester. Review of applications begins immediately.
