Library Internship – Hamilton Madison House

Hamilton Madison House is a voluntary, non-profit settlement house in the Two Bridges/Chinatown area of Manhattan’s Lower East Side dedicated to improving the quality of life in its community and beyond.

Title: Librarian Intern

Days: Monday thru Friday (days are flexible)

Hours: 3:30 – 5:30 p.m.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain library logs in order to keep records of books being checked in and out.
  • Plan and facilitate story time activities for children ages 5-12 to enhance reading skills and create a love of reading.
  • Maintain the library collection by accumulating new books in order to expand children’s reading levels and interests.

Requirements – Education, Training and Experience:

  • Applicant must be enrolled at a college or university with a major or minor in library sciences.

Personal Attributes and Skills Required:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills required.
  • Experience with school-age children preferred.

Reporting:

Applicant will report directly to the Associate Executive Director.

Salary:

This is a volunteer internship, in which school credit may be awarded.
