Overview:
The ASHP/CML is seeking an resourceful, self-motivated individual with strong organizational skills as a part-time Assistant Website Developer to work with our fulltime staff in developing online educational resources. The responsibilities include providing technical and administrative support for our educational content developers and web programmers.
The American Social History Project/Center for Media & Learning, based at the City University of New York Graduate Center at 5th Avenue & 34th Street in Manhattan, is one of the oldest public history projects in the country. Along with producing innovative text, documentaries, and digital programs, ASHP/CML conducts professional development programs that update teachers about new historical scholarship and focus on using technology and active-learning methods in the classroom.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should have/be:
- Experience with CSS and HTML programming
- Experience developing in a CMS environment
- Working knowledge of PHP and MySQL
- Knowledge of web accessibility best practices and understanding of how people use the web
- Knowledge of user-interface design for online educational resources
- Experience working in a collaborative environment
- Good communication skills
Skills not required but helpful:
- participatory web design
- WordPress
- Jquery and/or HTML5
- Omeka
- Experience working in higher education or other non/not-for-profit environment
Job Description:
The Associate Program Coordinator will work collaboratively with ASHP educational content developers and the webmaster to implement online databases for teachers of U.S. history. This position will assist in maintaining and updating websites that ASHP currently manages as well as work on new projects as they become funded. The work will include creating pages, themes, and templates in Word Press and Omeka as well as participation in and technical support for organizational-wide activities.
Terms:
Hours: 20 hours per week
Salary: $13-15 per hour depending on experience
