The Queens College Library invites applications for an academic library resource sharing internship during the Fall 2012 semester. This is an unpaid internship position, aimed at providing students with a practical field experience. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to be part of an academic library environment and work closely with librarians responsible for resource sharing, collection development and access services.
Description: The internship will introduce the candidate to daily operations of an Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery department and under the supervision of the Head of Access Services Librarian, the intern will learn various resource sharing functions and practices.
Responsibilities: The intern will review the current document delivery processes and will assist in designing and producing reports for use by collection development librarians. The intern will utilize a variety of bibliographic services such as ALEPH, CUNY+, OCLC, and ILIAD .
Professional Development: The intern will gain familiarity with professional and para-professional work performed in other library departments such as Cataloging, Access, Informational and Research Services. The intern will participate in meetings with library faculty and staff. The intern will have an opportunity to attend a variety of in-house professional and committee meetings as well as professional meetings sponsored by LACUNY, METRO or OLS.
Qualifications: The candidate must be currently enrolled student in the LIS Master’s program. The QC GSLIS Master’s program candidate must have completed 21 credits and be enrolled in the GLIS 795 Internship course to obtain academic credit. All prospective candidates must have approval from the course coordinator prior to applying for the internship position. Must show initiative, flexibility and ability to work in a team based environment. Familiarity with CUNY+ and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is highly desirable.
Schedule: 10-15 hours per week per semester is required. Position is available as of the start of the Fall 2012 semester. Review of applications begins immediately.
