Bard High School Early College, Queens – Looking for Temporary Librarian – September to December

Bard High School Early College Queens seeks to hire a temporary maternity leave replacement librarian to cover the library from the beginning of September to the beginning of December. Please see our website for more information about BHSEC, a DOE partnership with Bard College.

In this position, you would be a solo librarian responsible for all aspects of library administration, curriculum development and occasional classroom teaching visits. Experience supervising teenagers is a must. Experience with Destiny software preferred. You would have 1-2 days of training with the librarian before she takes maternity leave. You would also collaborate creatively with our Learning Commons Coordinator and Technology Coordinator as well as classroom teachers.

Non-negotiable requirements: an active MLS with Library Media Certification OR an MLS with a teaching certification in another field. (For example, if you were an English/math/special ed teacher in the DOE before becoming a librarian, and your certification is still active, you would be eligible).

We may also be able to consider recent grads with an MLS and LMS certification who have passed their certification exams and expect to have their certification finalized by Sept 1.

Please send a brief letter of interest and resume to Jess Hinds, library director, at jhinds@bhsec.bard.edu with “Maternity Leave Substitute” in the subject line. We are also seeking to increase our roster of per diem substitute librarians and may consider your application for this as well if you  express interest in your cover-letter. No phone calls, please.

Look forward to receiving your application!
