The Queens College Library invites applications for instructional services internship during the Spring 2013 semester. This is an unpaid internship position, aimed at providing current LIS students with a practical field experience. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to be part of an academic library environment and work closely with a Coordinator of Instructional Services.
Description: The internship will introduce the candidate to daily operations of an instructional services department and under the supervision of the Coordinator, the intern will sit in, observe and participate in a wide range of library instructional sessions.
Responsibilities: The intern will prepare and teach a segment within the library’s ENG 110 bibliographic instruction program. The intern will craft and deliver a short series of library workshops for QC students. In addition the intern will do fact-finding related to best practices in administering instruction and research programs. Lastly, the intern will investigate state of the art mobile teaching and distance learning.
Professional Development: The intern will have an opportunity to attend a variety of in-house, committee and professional meetings relevant to instruction, research and teaching
Qualifications: The candidate must be enrolled in the LIS Master’s program and must satisfy all QC GSLIS requirements for enrollment in GSLIS 795 Internship to obtain academic credit. Must show initiative, flexibility and ability to work in a team based environment. Familiarity with CUNY+ and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is highly desirable.
Schedule: 10-15 hours per week per semester is required. Position is available as of the start of the Spring 2013 semester. Review of applications begins immediately.
