Part Time Children’s Librarian
PART-TIME CHILDREN’S LIBRARIAN FLOATER
Queens Library, Library Journal’s 2009 Library of the Year, is seeking an outstanding part-time Children’s Librarian.
Children’s Librarians provide a wide range of innovative services to children in Queens. As advocates for our young library users, they provide reference, readers? advisory and information services to children using both traditional print and online resources. In addition, Children?s Librarians develop and present programs, build and manage collections, and provide library outreach to schools and other neighborhood organizations. Additionally, children?s librarians assist customers of all ages, particularly but not only, with the youth collection.
This position require an MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited library school and eligibility for NYS librarian certification. Graduate or undergraduate coursework and/or experience in a Child related field preferred. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills required. Familiarity with Children?s materials, services and programming required. Must be interested in working in an ethnically diverse urban community. Fluency or familiarity with international languages is preferred.
Assignments may be at any of the 63 Queens Library locations.
