This internship would be of particular interest to students in the field of Library & Information Studies and the Preservation of Cultural Heritage Objects and who are also interested in the visual arts (El Museo’s collection and exhibitions concentrate on the visual arts of Puerto Rico, Latin America and the Caribbean).  This internship will have a heavy emphasis in the use of The Museum System® (TMS) collections management database and digital imaging (TMS is utilized by many art museums internationally, including The Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art).  Although many of the tasks associated with the internship are to be completed at El Museo’s public and administrative office location at 1230 Fifth Avenue / 104th Street in Manhattan, some tasks may need to be executed at an offsite storage location in the Brooklyn waterfront, where  a vast majority of El Museo’s collection is stored.  Applicants, thus, should consider the commute involved with this internship.

Besides completing the application form, the applicant is to also provide:
–          cover letter
–          resume
–          academic letter of recommendation (preferred; if an academic letter of recommendation is not available in time when the internship application is submitted, an academic or professional reference can be submitted in the meantime)

WE HOPE TO FILL THIS INTERNSHIP POSITION BY FRIDAY – AUGUST 23RD, 2013.  THE INTERNSHIP WOULD COMMENCE ON OR AROUND THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 5TH, 2013.  AN INSTITUTION WIDE INTERNSHIP ORIENTATION IS TENTATIVELY SCHEDULED FOR MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 9TH, 2013.

Internship applications should be emailed to:
Noel Valentin, Permanent Collection Manager – nvalentin@elmuseo.org
Maritza Carmona, Community Relations Coordinator – mcarmona@elmuseo.org

We look forward in receiving your internship application!
