Internships — Brooklyn College Archives and Special Collection

bc libThe Brooklyn College Archives and Special Collection seeks two (2) motivated processing interns to arrange and describe two small archival collections. Each intern will be assigned a collection to survey, rehouse, and organize according to the Society of American Archivists’ standard guidelines found in Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS).  The interns will be responsible for completing the Finding Aid for their assigned collection, and will present their work to colleagues at the end of the semester.

These internships are unpaid.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must be enrolled in an Archives, Library Science, or Museum Studies program with a concentration in Archival Studies.
  • Availability to work at least 12 hours per week (Archives is open M-F 9 am to 5pm).
  • Preference will be given to students completing the internship for course credit.
  • Interns must be able to lift boxes weighing up to 40 pounds.

Essential Skills & Abilities:

  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Quick thinker with demonstrated problem-solving skills.

To apply, the applicant must provide a resume and a one (1) page statement of the candidate’s interest and/or intent in applying for the internship. If chosen for an interview, candidate will be asked to supply two references.  Interview will take place at Brooklyn College. 2. Online Outreach Intern

The Brooklyn College Library seeks an innovative, energetic intern to assist in developing and expanding the online presence for Brooklyn College’s Conservation Laboratory, and to design a web page for a collection in our holdings. The intern will be given instruction on the Library’s proprietary web page software, as well as our social media policies and procedures.

This internship is unpaid.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must be enrolled in an Archives, Library, or Museum Studies program.
  • Availability to work at least 12 hours per week (Archives is open M-F 9 am to 5pm).
  • Preference will be given to students completing the internship for course credit.

Essential Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Experience scanning materials.
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop.
  • Familiarity with various social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, etc.).
