Instructional Technology Fellow: VOCAT Coordinator

baruch2Baruch College is hiring a coordinator for its Vocat project, who will work 20 hours/week to assist with implementation and support of a homegrown tool that facilitates feedback on live performances or recorded video. Vocat gives students easy access to their videos and scores from across their academic career, and provides a space to engage in online conversations with instructors. In addition to continuing use of the current tool (www.baruch.cuny.edu/vocat) used at Baruch since 2007, we will be piloting a new version of the tool this spring for twelve projects on the Baruch campus as well as three projects at other CUNY campuses.

The Vocat Coordinator, working with the Vocat team at the Bernard L. Schwartz Communication Institute and the Center for Teaching and Learning, will perform the following duties:

  • Create and distribute documentation and tutorials for instructor and student users
  • Train and assist faculty to:
    • set up new courses and projects in the Vocat system.
    • create custom rubrics.
    • record, compress, and upload videos.
    • evaluate media artifacts with rubric-based numeric scores, timestamped annotations, and threaded discussion.
  • Train and assist students to:
    • log into the Vocat system.
    • record, compress, and upload videos.
    • evaluate the work of their peers, and respond to instructor feedback.
  • Deliver camera equipment to classrooms, and provide basic training to faculty and students in use of the equipment.
  • Collect bug reports from students and faculty and enter them into a ticketing system.
  • Communicate with faculty and students about the status of and resolution of technical problems encountered.
  • Collaborate with the Vocat team on ongoing development and deployment of the tool.
  • Help produce reports on the various pilots.

Qualifications:
Applicants should have experience working with ed tech tools and strong collaborative and communication skills. Experience writing documentation and teaching are preferred.

Compensation Details:
This is a College Assistant position that will pay $20.77/hour for up to 20 hrs/week through 6/30/2014. It is available immediately and renewable for the 2014/2015 academic year.
