CUNY SPS SEEK Program:
The Percy Ellis Sutton Search for Education, Elevation, and Knowledge (SEEK) program began as a pre-baccalaureate program in 1965 at The City College of New York. In 1966, the New York State Legislature established the program as CUNY’s opportunity program in senior and comprehensive colleges and contributes to CUNY’s mission of access and success in higher education. The CUNY SPS SEEK program was created to support the college and career success of eligible part-time and full-time transfer students in online degree programs. CUNY SPS is the University’s newest SEEK program and the first of its kind within the University.

CUNY SPS invites applications for two SEEK Math Tutor/Non-Teaching Adjunct positions.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Admissions Access Programs & SEEK, the SEEK Math Tutor/Non-Teaching Adjunct will:

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide SEEK students with virtual tutoring assistance
• Work 1:1 with SEEK students to provide guidance, understanding, and comprehension of math topics
• Provide expertise on mathematical topics in scatter plots, graphics in the media, problem-solving strategies, dimensional analysis, and mathematical modeling
• Provide expertise in probability, descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, and inferential statistics
• Assist students with understanding Microsoft Excel statistical functions to analyze data
• Provide students with 1:1 appointments, small group sessions, and drop-in hours
• Conduct math-related workshops that may be beneficial to SEEK students

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required

Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from an accredited college or university
• At least one year of tutoring experience
• Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills
• Commitment to understanding and working with adult learners
• Tutoring experience with New York State opportunity program students
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Evidence of being detail, results, and solution-oriented
• Ability to be focused and efficient, but also flexible when working on multiple projects
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn new computer applications quickly
• Experience with Zoom and other virtual meeting systems

Salary Range: $47.42 per hour (hourly rate based on CUNY’s non-teaching adjunct salary scale)

Hours: Part -Time (approximately 10 hours per week, midday schedule available, but weekends and evening schedules required)
